Dear Maureen,
Somewhere I read that you cannot weep for one who has left more than she has taken with her. Madge left so much here for us. Her crab cakes, her leg of lamb and her chicken con pollo? to name a few. But most important Madge left the beautiful memory of a lovely lady who epitomized the 20th century. Always impeccably dressed, hair done and wearing a smile she touched so many lives. She took care of her Jim, and Maureen and Joe and doted on Julie and Michael and their children. Madge was fun and she loved a party. I remember a pretend Jaws movie party she hosted in Ocean City where she served pretend popcorn to Mike and my son Luke. It was the highlight of that summer. Madge will be missed but I bet she is happy now with Jim and the old gang in heaven. My love and prayers are with you Maureen, Joe, Michael and Julie.

"Aunt Madgie" is how she signed my First Communion card which I still have! and my birthday and Christmas cards for many years. Aunt Madgie used to tell Maureen and me that the weekly loaf of Freihoffer's bread left in her bread box outside the back door at 210 Briar Hill Lane was delivered by Eddie Freihoffer. Her allusion to the bread delivery man as "Eddie Freihoffer" somehow made something as simple as bread delivery like a party to me. When I was little, I believed that the bread delivery man - named Eddie Friehoffer by Aunt Madgie - baked the bread, put it in its wrapper, loaded it onto his truck, and delivered it to her door each week. When I was little, I thought that that was so amazing.....She had a way of spicing things up...like my earliest birthdays, which were always spent in the morning before I left for school sitting by the radio listening for my name to be read by the talk show host, whose name I can't remember. Aunt Madgie religiously sent in my name, along with Maureen's, to the guy on the radio, who wished us each a happy birthday on November 12 and November 14, respectively. Many years later, she stood by me with her encouragement when my mom was ill for so many years, and by my dad when he needed someone close to comfort him. She was always so supportive of my children and told me many times how beautiful they are.
Now, my Uncle Jimmy is beside himself, ordering a round, and pulling my Dad over to the piano. There's going to be a big party in heaven tonight.

Maureen, Your mom lent me a gown her's to wear in the Homecoming Court. It was a very stylish 2-piece brocade blue. She must have been a lot taller then!! Not many of our moms had gowns, so I guess she was a true Woodbury Socialite. As Peg said, it's a true end of an era. Love, "That Cooper Village Girl"
