My Thoughts on Warren
There are times in our lives when we meet people who have a profound impact on our life. I must say that Warren has left an indelible mark on not just my life, but also my husband’s and my son’s. He will be sorely missed but always remembered and treasured!
Here is a list of my memories of Warren:
* His famous “Kahler Coffee” - he is the man that got my son, Edward’s, palate lusting for good coffee. We gave him an award for his “Kahler Coffee”
* He was a proud WWII veteran - who helped to liberate concentration camp victims under General Patton. Some of the things he saw were unspeakable and horrible.
* He worked for Abbott’s dairy and was proud of his long-time service for this company
* He always spoke of his children and grandchildren with great love and affection. He was so proud of them. He was extremely concerned for his son during his recent battle with cancer but was positive that everything would be OK. And he was correct - his son is doing very well!
* He was a loving, faithful, and caring brother to George. They were at our home on many occasions for dinners and parties. George particularly liked my German style potato salad. Warren always liked when I would make Italian food.
* Warren was a good and faithful Christian. He was a greeter at church. Worked diligently at the church’s food closet and distribution. Served on Church Council and on the Finance Committee. He was a trusted member of the congregation.
* He served as a mentor to my son. He got Ed involved in the German Club, of which Warren was extremely involved. He got Ed to love “kraut” and sausage and had Ed help him with the annual German Dinner. I am sure his friends at the German Club will miss him as much as we will.
* Warren loved Eagles. He had a varied collection of them in his home. He gave a crystal eagle to Ralph and me when we moved from New Jersey to our new home in Lebanon, PA about a year and a half ago. He would tease me and say “You better put it in a good spot!” Well, he needn’t have worried - as it is in a prominent place in my curio cabinet in my living room. It looks over the chair I sit in every day and will be a daily reminder to Ralph and me of our love for Warren.
* I would smile each time Warren’s hearing aids would squeal and he would take them out because they would annoy him.
* He would come in and say “do you like my hair cut?” That was usually after his son would shave most of it off. That would bring another smile to my face!
* I remember his 80th surprise birthday party - he was in such good health and so pleased to have his family and many of his friends around him to celebrate!
* It always amazed me how he would still go out and ride his bike! I can’t even get on one myself anymore!
The morning that Nancy called to tell us that Warren had passed away, I woke up with a hymn going through my head over and over again. The night before I had a difficult time going to sleep as Warren was on my mind but I woke up with this hymn - it’s called “On Eagle’s Wings” and the following are the lyrics:
You who dwell in the shelter of the Lord,
Who abide in His shadow for life,
Say to the Lord, “My refuge,
My Rock in whom I trust.”
And He will raise you up on eagle’s wings,
Bear you on the breath of dawn,
Make you to shine like the sun,
And hold you in the palm of His hand.
The snare of the fowler will never capture you,
And famine will bring you no fear;
Under His wings your refuge,
His faithfulness your shield.
And He will raise you up on eagle’s wings,
Bear you on the breath of dawn,
Make you to shine like the sun,
And hold you in the palm of His hand.
You need not fear the terror of the night,
Nor the arrow that flies by day,
Though thousands fall about you,
Near you it shall not come
And He will raise you up on eagle’s wings,
Bear you on the b

My condolences to the family. Mr. Kahler was a beloved man and always so active. I have such wonderful memories of him and his love for all his friends and as a young teenager attending church, he would have get togethers at his home and we'd sit around talking, playing board games -- it was a great thing he did. I remember the collection of eagles he had in his home. His friends and family will miss him dearly.

Warren will be missed very much by all of those whose lives he touched. Mr. Kahler was my youth group advisor at Trinity Luth. and at St. Stephen's of Woodbury, Nj, He was a very kind and loving man, to all of us. We reconnected when my family started to attended Apostles Luth. Church. In my many years as a youth advisor, I hope that I too have touched as many lives as Warren did. Good bye my friend, teacher and mentor. I will miss making you those snickerdoodles that you said you loved.
Love to all of his family,
Dale Wiltbank

Warren, may you rest in peace. You have been a great friend ever since we met in Luther League at Trinity Lutheran Church. I always enjoyed our time together when I traveled to Jersey for a visit. We always had a good time when we would talk over ice cream at Friendly’s. I am so glad I had a chance to visit with Warren just days after his surgery. He sounded so optimistic and upbeat about his health. I will miss you.
I send my sincere condolences to the entire Kahler Family.

I am so very sorry to learn of the passing of Mr. Kahler. My Father passed away when I was a young boy, and Mr. Kahler in many ways became my surrogate Father. I deeply regret that I will be out of town on business and unable to attend the services.

My sincerest condolences to the Kahler family. Warren was in charge of the Luther League at Trinity Lutheran Church in Woodbury when I was a member back in the 50's/60's. We all absolutely loved and respected him and had such great times and learned much from him. He was an excellent role model for the youth of the church. Such great memories I hold.
