Kay E. (nee Spence) Melson, of Wenonah, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 22nd, 2024 at the age of 84. Born to the late John and Anna Mary (nee Mickel) Spence on September 2, 1939 in Verga, New Jersey. Kay grew up in large family being one of seven children, she was the beloved sister to the late Anna Mary Davis, the late Lenora Morgan, the late Jacqueline Sorensen, the late Catherine Ford, Beverly McClaine, and Wilma Cheeseman. Kay graduated from Gloucester High School, then started working at Little Debbie's Dress Factory in Camden, New Jersey as a fabric cutter. While working at the dress factory, she met the love of her life, George Melson as he worked in the warehouse. The two bonded over the fact they both drove a Mercury. George asked Kay out for a cup of coffee, and the pair spent 53 loving years together. George and Kay spent their time together traveling to places such as Jamaica, Ireland, and Canada, as well as going out dancing to country western bars to line dance. One of Kay's specialties was her cooking, as she always prepared "Meat and Potatoes" for her family, and her famous Strawberry Shortcake Biscuits. George and Kay decided that they had so much love between them that they started a family, giving birth to their two sons George Melson Jr., and Mark Melson Sr. Eventually becoming loving grandparents to Mark Jr., Stephanie (Rick), Melissa (Bill), George III (Debbie), Amanda (Craig), William (Heather), Katie, Bradley, and the late Candice. Kay is the Great-Grandmother to Brianna, Emily, Rebecca, George IV, Gregory, Bella Rose, Craig III, Wade, Damian, Michael, Candice, Christopher, Lilly, Wesley, Caleb, Taylor, Christina, and Mark III. Blessed to be the Great- Great-Grandmother to Evelyn. Cherished sister in law to Harriet Bates and Bill Carver. Kay was known as the "Slot Queen", as she started a slot club with her close family and friends. Kay could not be torn away from her machines, she loved to spend time at the casinos. Most know her for her polite, kind, and caring personality. She'd give you the shirt off of her back if you needed it whether she knew you for your entire life or she just met you for the first time. Kay would do anything for those she loved. Her loving spirit will be dearly missed.
