Obituary of Ludwig J. Weisensee

Ludwig J. Weisensee, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Saturday, September 30, 2023. He was 87 years old.

Legacy

Opa as he was known by all and everyone he met, was born in Wurzburg, Germany and raised in Volkach Germany. After World War II, and in 1954, Opa immigrated to the United States through Ellis Island. He worked in the Bronx at his Aunt’s butcher shop during the day and took night classes learning to speak English. After graduating night school he enlisted in the United States Army and served from 1957 to 1959. Upon his Honorable Discharge, Opa returned to the Bronx where he met the love of his life and future wife Patricia at a soccer game. Opa began working as a machinist in the Brooklyn Navy Yard and eventually transferred to the Philadelphia Navy Yard. He established a home in South Jersey and lived there for close to 60 years. Feeling the call for a better life, Patricia and Ludwig started a small food distributorship that blossomed into a very successful food wholesaler business. Upon retiring, Opa spent most of his time doting on his grandchildren.

When Opa was not with his family, he enjoyed watching European Soccer, especially the Bundesliga, cheering for his favorite team FC Bayern Munich. His other passion was gardening and tending to his lawn. Opa spent many years being his grandchildren's biggest fan. Opa did not miss a sporting event, recital, or school function that they were involved with as they were his pride and joy.

Opa will be fondly remembered as an outgoing, fun loving man who enjoyed the company of his family and friends creating memories that will be cherished as his legacy. He left an unforgettable and positive impression on everyone he met.
