Obituary of Dorothy B. Harris

Dorothy "Dottie" B. Harris (nee: Bufo),  of West Deptford, New Jersey, passed away on Saturday, September 2, 2023.  She was 92.
 
Legacy
Dottie was born on Benson Street in Camden, NJ on April 5, 1931, and lived in the Colonial Manor section of West Deptford Twp. since 1937.  She graduated from Paulsboro High School in 1949 and married the love of her life, Wilbert Harris on April 15, 1952.

She worked for many years at RCA in Camden, NJ, as a secretary.  She also worked as a receptionist/secretary at the Gloucester City YMCA, Woodbury, NJ.  She was a school aide at the Colonial Manor Grammar School, Oakview School, and from there she went to the West Deptford High School.  Here she worked in the cafeteria as the baker & cashier , she retired from there in 1995.

Dottie was also a Den Mother to Boy Scout Park 296, Colonial Manor, as well as a leader of the 4-H Club in Colonial Manor.  She was also the Treasurer & person in charge of the West Deptford Little League baseball food stand during the baseball seasons for many years.  She was past president (1971) of the Colonial Manor School PTA, past president of the West Deptford High School PTA (1972) along with being a member of the Band Parents Association, Treasurer of the West Deptford Little Women's Auxiliary (1964-1968), past president of the Colonial Manor Fire Company Women's Auxiliary as well as a Life Member Trustee, she also served as secretary for the 100 year celebration of West Deptford Twp.  As a member of the WD Band Parents Association, she traveled to the band competitions, no matter where they were, to see her children perform.  Dottie enjoyed performing in plays with the WD Little Theater for several years, as well as being a member of the WD Little Theater Association.
She enjoyed spending time at her home in the PA Poconos (1957-2013) with her family & friends and loved attending stage shows at the Pitman Theater with her daughters.
One of her life memories was her train trip to El Paso, Texas (1963 Ft. Bliss), where her husband was stationed, with her two sons, and daughter, all under 6 years old.  Leaving Philadelphia, PA on a Friday night and arriving Sunday night with stops in St. Louis, MO and Tex Arkansas to change trains, then onto El Paso, TX.  2 1/2 days on the train with 3 small children, as she always said "A Trip in a Half"!
She will always be remembered for her Easter dinners along with her Christmas Eve and Day dinners for her family.
 
Family
She is the beloved Wife of 71 years to Wilbert W. Harris "Lum"; loving mother of Richard Harris (Fiance: Danielle); Chris Harris (Diane), Lynn S. Melson (Larry), Barbara A. Foder. Loving grandmother of Kimberly Gillen, Kristen Emerson, Michael Harris, Brian & Scott Melson, Megan & Brandon Kelly; and great-grandmother of Nathaniel, Hadley, Charlee, Antonia, Francesca, Abigail, Bella.  
 
Farewell Tribute
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her visitation on Monday, September 18, 2023, from  9:30AM  to 11 AM in the McGuinness Funeral Home - Woodbury, 34 Hunter Street. Funeral Service will begin at 11 AM.  Interment will follow at Eglington Cemetery, Clarksboro, NJ.
