Dorothy Andrew

Obituary of Dorothy Mae Andrew

Dorothy Mae Andrew (Saylor), 92, of Turnersville, NJ, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 11, 2023. She was the family historian, grammar queen, politics lover, and, most importantly, the best Mom ever. She loved her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, etc. She fought until the end, and then gracefully left us too soon.

She could strike up a conversation with a stranger anywhere and enjoyed talking to anyone who would listen. She was so smart that she skipped 5th grade & was valedictorian of her class at Moorestown High School, class of 1948. She received a full-ride scholarship but gave her title and college pursuits up to another when she couldn’t attend college as her father fell ill.

She worked at the Washington Twp High School Library and was very active in the WTHS Band Parents. She was the treasurer at Apostles Lutheran Church in Turnersville, NJ, as well as the Gloucester County Historical Society, where she taught herself how to do taxes and payroll at a later age.  Dorothy always took great pride in knowing the history of her family, and enjoyed sharing it with others.  She attended many conferences and trips looking through historic records.  Her favorite activity was enjoying a good book she borrowed from the local library, while she sipped from a strong cup of tea.  Dorothy also was a big Philadelphia sports fan. She loved watching all the local teams for years, especially her beloved Phillies.

Dorothy Mae Andrew was the loving wife of the late Donald Andrew; loving mother of Roberta Hewitt (Keith), Ross Andrew and the late Glenn Andrew; cherished grandmother of Stephanie Schuman, Corinne Gerhart, Jonathan Andrew, Amanda Andrew, Ross M. Andrew, Nicholas Andrew and great grandmother of Tyler Andrew, Hunter Loomis, Quinn Andrew, Madison Mae Schuman, Samantha Schuman, Reese Andrew & Westley Andrew.

Memorial contributions can be made in Dorothy's name to Heggan Library Friends, which is a charity tied to a library she cherished. Donations can be sent to the following address: 606 Delsea Drive, Sewell, NJ 08080
