Obituary of Carol A. Andersen

Our loving mother Carol Ann (nee Stanley) Andersen, 86 of West Deptford, NJ, sadly passed away peacefully on April 17th, with her family by her side. Carol was born in NYC in September 1936. She lived in many areas of NYC before moving to Valley Stream, Long Island with her parents, the late Leon and Loretta Stanley and three younger brothers, the late Alan, Stephen, and Richard Stanley.

Carol spent her early life designing the windows in her father’s storefronts throughout NYC which led her to pursue an education in fashion. With her beloved husband and best friend, Bill, she nurtured the family business, The Nut Shop, that her parents started in 1958 in NY, and opened stores throughout NY, NJ and PA. While raising her three loving daughters.

Many of the girls’ friends and young people were able to enjoy their first jobs at the candy store where they had the opportunity to learn many different life skills. Carol’s children and grandchildren all had the special opportunity of working at the stores.

In 1980, they started to make their own chocolates and eventually moved their operation to an old building they completely renovated at 17 South Broad Street in Woodbury, NJ. This is where Carol turned her artistic talents to the world of chocolates. You could walk in and see chocolate Titanic’s half-submerged in the Atlantic, bountiful Easter baskets filled with homemade vanilla cream eggs and beautiful bunnies, and her spooky, hand painted Halloween decorations. On Woodbury parade days, she was out in front with her kids and grandkids selling Bill’s gleaming candied apples.

Even though they worked 7 days a week, Carol and Bill did everything together. She loved the trips to the beach to relax as much as she loved her trips to the city to see the shows. Carol loved to entertain guests for dinner parties while Bill sat at the Piano playing everyone’s favorite tunes.

Carol was the loving wife, “Cookie,” of the late William “Bill” Andersen; loving mother of Loretta Christy (John), Terry Lemire (Don) & Karen Bozarth (late Bill); loving grandmother of Matthew, Nicolas, Leslie, Donald and Leah and great grandmother of Justin, Russel, Michael, Anthony, Maya, and Milo. Also survived by 2 dear stepchildren, Judy (Bob) & Robert (Charlotte).
