Obituary of Rodney W. Brown

Rodney W. Brown, 60 of Clayton, New Jersey, passed away on Sunday, December 18, 2022.

Legacy

Rodney leaves behind a wealth of loved ones including his beloved wife, Kathleen, or KathQueen, as he affectionately called her for over 37 fun, loving and joyful years. Together, they raised four black-ish, respectful, humorous children- Lindsay (Favian) Hamlette, Colin (Elizabeth) Brown, Holly Brown, and Tyler (Katelyn) Brown, along with many fur children through the years. The joys of his life, however, were likely his three grandchildren-Torin, Ariella, and Sean Hamlette. Loving son of Lillian R. Brown (nee Groce) and the late William C. Brown III, bonus son of Joan F. Dickinson. Youngest brother to Georgette (John), the late Herbie, and Judi (Dauda). Amazing uncle to Kimberly, Todd, as well as many other nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and all who knew him.

Husband, father, Poppy, son, brother, uncle, son-in-law, and friend-Rodney wore all of his hats with pride, dignity, love, and affection. His most prideful were likely husband, father, and Poppy-never far behind with his Cannon camera and tripod to forever capture the moment. He treated everyone like family and always tried to help others in any possible way he could with his endless wealth of knowledge. Everyone whom entered his house was greeted with a firm handshake (not fish-like and weak), a smiling face, and back slap alongside a home cooked meal , cold beverage (absolutely never warm!) and a leisurely swim in his pool.

Though he resided in South Jersey the past 31 years, he always said he will always be a Philadelphian; he loved his city, especially the sports teams. In his youth, he was a longtime member of the competitive Philadelphia Aquatics team, the Tigersharks, alongside his three siblings. He will forever be a proud Drexel Dragon, where he rightfully earned his Master’s in Business Administration with a focus in finance and economics (not the NBA). Rodney was an advocate for education and learning; sharing his knowledge throughout his career in higher education, as well as a longtime member of the Clayton Public Schools Board of Education. The life of the party, professional dad joker, opinionated and educated, mathematician, animal-lover, man of studied elegance, sharp as a whip memory, enrapturing storyteller, laugher of farts, bass bumping music lover, knower of everything, avid cat-napping sleep talker, cheesecake aficionado, grill master, food connoisseur, car enthusiast , speed limit ignorer, quirky, smart aleck-Rodney was a once in a lifetime personality and truly outstanding human being, and to know him was to love him.
