Obituary of Paul J. Murtagh, Sr.

Paul J.”Murph” Murtagh, Sr.of Deptford, New Jersey, passed away peacefully with family on Saturday, October 24, 2020. 

Legacy

He was a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle and friend.  A proud member of the United States Marine Corps. Paul loved to drive, go to yard sales, cooking especially soup, he was known as the "Soup Nazi".  He coached Darby Little League in Delaware County for years.  After the passing of his wife Shirley, Paul belonged to a support group.  He was a proud Irishman and he went to Ireland with his support group.

Family

He is the beloved husband of over 50 years to the late Shirley J. Murtagh (nee Hoffman).  Devoted father of Shirley Boesenhofer (Robert, Sr.), Paul J. Murtagh, Jr. (Cynthia), Linda Shockey (James) and Richard M. Murtagh (Denise).  Treasured grandfather of Robert, Jr, Pamela, Paul III, Ryan (Alexis), the late Daniel, Christopher (Kelsey), Samantha, the late Lauren, Tara, Amanda (Joey), Justin, Matthew and Jenna.  Adored great grandfather of Taylor, Devon, Jaxon and Raelee.  Son of the late Margaret and John Murtagh.  Dear brother of Madeline and predeceased by Richard, Evelyn, John, Joe, Sissy and Dody.  He will be missed by many friends and family.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his viewing on Saturday, October 31st from 8:00AM to 10:00AM in the McGuinness Funeral Home 34 Hunter Street, Woodbury, NJ 08096.  Funeral Mass at 11:00AM in Infant Jesus Parish at ST. JOHN VIANNEY'S RC CHURCH 2901 GOOD INTENT ROAD DEPTFORD, NJ.  Interment Hillcrest Memorial Park Sewell, NJ. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his honor to his sister Madeline.  Paul’s dying wish was to always take care of his sister.  Please make donations to Madeline Murtagh at TD Bank account number 4351896134.
