Rich you were my youngest brother, and just like my fourth son. I was there the day you were born and I will always remember the good times we shared while you were growing up with Dave, Mike and Danny. My heart has a huge void, but knowing we will meet again someday and remembering the love we shared will help fill it. I will always love and remember you and you will continue to live on through your beautiful legacy to us...your Children. Elena, we will always be here for you and love you like our own.
Your Sister, Ann
Rich it was great having you as a brother-in-law. You always brought a ray of sunshine to this family and I am very proud to have known you.

To the Heffner family,
Words can not express the profound sadness I am feeling. Even though we were no longer in each others daily lives, he had and will always have a special place in my heart. I know how happy he was with his life and family, the last couple of times I ran into him he couldn't get the pictures out fast enough! The world has lost an "all around good guy" and he will be missed more than you know. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you.

From Rich's eulogy ....He was the baby, the little brother, a wonderful husband, a greater father and the best friend a person could have. I know, I am one of them.
For those of you who didn?t know Rich well, let me tell you a little about him?
He was as hairy as a bear and as smart as a whip
He was the King of Trivial Pursuit
He loved golf as well as a good Manhattan
He was kind, he was caring,
He loved animals
He put ketchup on his turkey and roast beef
He loved to spend money
He was forever giving
And as a rule,he would never, ever wear white underwear.
Richard Hefner was the total package. He was strong, but sensitive. He was a man?s man and a woman?s man. When anyone got to know Rich, whether it be a man or a woman, a child or elder, he stole your heart!
He could make anyone ? everyone feel special and important. He had a gift.
Richard, we love you and will miss you. Goodbye for now but we promise to see you in the future.

Elena,
I am so sorry to hear about Rich. Words can't explain. You and I never got the chance to meet. I worked with Rich when he first started at Kallestad/Sanofi. There were only four field people at the time so we got to be close sharing the ups and downs of being on the road and life in general. He was a guy you liked to work with and be considered his friend. I know you and the childern meant so much to him because every time he talked about you or them his face light up. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. I hope that the pain of his lose will somehow be softened by the memories you all made together.

Please accept our heartfelt sympathy on the untimely passing of Rich. He was an integral part of our lab and was so kind and helpful. We considered him our friend. He spent so much time with us we often spoke of getting him a time card with Montgomery! His presence will be sorely missed by myself and the rest of my co-workers @Montgomery Hospital's Chemistry Lab.
With our deepest sympathy,

I had the pleasure of working with Rich, and in fact, he was one of my first contacts at what was then Kallestad Labs. Rich, being the only Field Rep, and me, being the only Tech Rep on equipment, gave us both ample opportunities for frequent contact, although a call from me usually meant more work for him. My deepest condolences to the Heffner family, and to all that had the pleasure of Rich's freindship - We will miss him!

Dear Family of Rich,
I worked closely with Rich when I worked for Beckman. Besides being a great guy to work with, please know that he was, in my opinion, one of the best Field Engineers that I have ever worked with.
Although it was probably hard to tell sometimes because of the Field Service demands, I know that his family meant alot to him. Through conversations that I had with him, I also know he did his best to keep his family top priority above his job. He always spoke highly of his family. My thoughts and prayers are with you. I only wish that I could be there to tell you this in person.
Sincerely,
Mark A. Tetreault
Friend of Rich

I always enjoyed seeing Rich, which wasn't frequent, because he did field support while I did in-house work in Chaska, MN for Sanofi Diagnostics and later, Beckman. I spent time with Rich on a special issue service call in the 1990s, in Cherry Hill, NJ. Rich catered me all over on that trip. When the work was done I spent time in Rich and Elena's home, and had a lovely meal with this very hospitable couple. It was then I met the 'notorious' daughter, Marianne. All of Rich's friends and co-workers here in Chaska, MN. are shocked with Rich's passing. We will remember him with a smile in our hearts. It was always great to see Rich again. Personally, I am deeply saddened, but my grief is probably very small compared to the family's. God bless the memory of Rich, and may He comfort all of Rich's family and friends.
Mike Hadenfeldt
