Obituary of Marie L. S. McGuinness

Marie L. McGuinness nee Schultes, 81, died Wednesday, August 4, 2004 surrounded by her family and memories in the comfort of her home in Woodbury, N.J. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, James A. McGuinness, Sr. Marie was a wonderful mother to James A. Jr., McGuinness & his wife Patricia, Kathleen Berg & her husband Don, Irene Bradley & her husband Michael, and William McGuinness & his wife Karen. She was devoted to and adored by her grandchildren Madeleine, Gwendolyn, Elysia, Nicole, Kimberly, Jamie, William, Mary and Andrew. Marie was a devoted sister to Eleanor Adams, James Schultes, Irene Jordan and Joseph Schultes. Marie was born in Woodbury and graduated from Woodbury High School in 1940. She earned a Bachelor s of Science degree in Physical Education from Temple University in 1945. From 1944-1946, she was a physical education teacher at Immaculata College where she coached the field hockey, basketball and tennis teams. In 1946 she coached Immaculata College to its first Philadelphia City Championship. During the 1950 s, she taught physical education and coached at Clayton, Williamstown and Deptford High Schools. She was inducted in the Gloucester County and the Woodbury High School Halls of Fame in 1995 and was also profiled in the book O God of Players, The Story of the Immaculata Mighty Macs published in 2003. In 1950 she and her husband opened McGuinness Funeral Home in Woodbury where she continued to work until recently. She was a blood donor to the Red Cross for 40 years, a member of the Catholic Daughters of America and the Woman s Club of Woodbury. A viewing will be held Sunday from 2-4 PM and 6-9 PM & Monday 9:30 10:30 AM in the McGuinness-Woodbury Funeral Home at 34 Hunter St. Woodbury. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 AM in St. Patrick s RC Church Woodbury. Interment Gloucester Co. Veterans Cemetery, Monroe Twp. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Patrick s Church, 64 Cooper St. Woodbury, NJ 08096. A gentle soul who blessed the lives of all she met.
