Obituary of Carmelisa Dragoni

Sr. Carmelisa Dragoni, Franciscan Missionary Sister of the Infant Jesus, Angela Dragoni died suddenly on Jan. 29, 2005 from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. Sr. Carmelisa was born on Oct. 26, 1939 in Villapenna Campli, Italy. She is predeceased by her parents, Alessandro & Elisa as well as a sister Addolorata DiBonaventura. Sister is survived by her sister, Francesca Cristofari, a brother-in-law Pacifico, 4 nephews: Sandro, Gianni, Gabriele & Piero, her uncles Adamo & Gabriele and aunt, Maria. Sr. Carmelisa entered the Franciscan Missionary Sisters in St. Mary of the Angels in Assisi, Italy and professed her vows to the Lord on Sept. 17, 1959. After spending 6 years teaching in Milan, Sister accepted the obedience to come to the United States in 1966. Her first & beloved mission was in St. Margaret?s School?Woodbury Hgts., where she taught from 1966-1980. She was then assigned to Holy Cross in Rumson, NJ serving as principal until 1988. From 1988 to 2003 Sister was principal at Our Lady of Perpetual Help School in Highlands, NJ. She then went to our Delegation House in Cherry Hill where she directed the Spirituality Center, planning retreats and serving the spiritual needs of others. Sr. Carmelisa will be remembered by all as a person totally dedicated to Jesus Christ, and committed to the people whom she served. She will be remembered not only as an excellent educator, but also as a wonderful friend. Sister will be missed by all of us who loved her, but her presence will continue as we allow her goodness to live through each of us. Mass of Resurrection Sat. 10 AM in St. Thomas More RC Church, 1439 Springdale Rd., Cherry Hill, where relatives & friends are invited to attend her viewing Fri. 6-9 PM and Sat. 9-10 AM.
