Obituary of Dominic F. Carlino

Dr. Dominic F. Carlino, a prominent Gloucester County and Atlantic City physician died Sunday in the Atlantic City Medical Center, Atlantic City. He was 75 years of age. Dr. Carlino led the drive to have physicians report child abuse to the legal authorities. His participation led to legislation being passed by the New Jersey Legislature. Dr. Carlino also led the fight against teenage drug abuse. He founded the Gloucester Co. office of Services to Overcome Drug Abuse SODAT. Dominic Carlino was born in Philadelphia, but moved to New York at an early age. He graduated from Jamaica H.S. in Jamaica, NY and then graduated from Hofstra University. He attended the University of Basel Medical School in Basel, Switzerland and graduated from Creighton University Medical School in Omaha, Nebraska. Upon graduation, he joined the medical practice of Drs. DePersia and Dupre in Gibbstown. Eventually, he moved to Woodbury and became an associate of Dr. Paul Pegau. Dr. Carlino served as Chief of Pediatrics for Underwood-Memorial Hospital in Woodbury during the 1980s. He also maintained an office in Washington Twp. He served as the President of the Gloucester Co. chapter of the American Heart Assn. He was instrumental in starting their annual golf tournament. In 1982, he became the Medical Director at the Tropicana Casino in Atlantic City. Until he was stricken, he still maintained his practice in Washington Twp. His medical philosophy was direct - if there was a need, he acted. Through his pediatrician practice, he treated many of the children of the Philadelphia Flyers and Eagles. This helped foster his lifetime love of sports. He enjoyed traveling and golf, but mostly he loved the company of good friends. You were never a stranger for very long in Dominic?s company. He had an enjoyment and zest for life that was unmatched. Dominic was a member of the Tavistock and Greate Bay Country Clubs. He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann nee Panebianco. He is the father of Marcelle Daniels, Christine Carlino O?Bannon, Dominic Carlino, Michelle Pantisano and Michael Carlino. Son of Marcelle Carlino. Grandfather of Ryan, Meghan Christian, Leena and Maryn. Great-grandfather of Karsyn. A visitation will be held from 9:30 ? 11:15 AM Friday in the Maris Stella RC Church 5012 Dune Drive. Avalon, NJ. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:30 AM Friday in the church.
