Clifton, Alice B. ?Betty? nee Kidd age 58 of Woodbury, NJ on Oct 24, 2005 with her loving family at her side. Mrs. Alice Clifton was born June 3, 1947 in Paulsboro, NJ. She attended the school system in Paulsboro and is a graduate of Paulsboro High School in 1965. Mrs. Alice Clifton was nontraditional college student. She attended Rutgers University, Camden, NJ; Gloucester County College, Glassboro State College in 1986 where she received her B. A. in History. She had such a love for the library she enrolled at Drexel University in Philadelphia, PA where she received her Master of Science Degree for Library Science. Mrs. Clifton worked for social security administration for eleven years in Phila, PA; she was an employee of Johnson Library in Jericho Deptford, NJ. She worked later at GCUA for 6 years in West Deptford, NJ She worked for Helene Fuld School of Nursing in the library in Blackwood, NJ. She worked for Temple University Health System in Northeastern School of Nursing in Phila, PA. She last worked for Camden County Library as a reference librarian. She was a member of OES of Woodbury, National Association of Colored Women Community Mothers, Women of Hope & Faith and she was past matron of Esther Chapter #25, Woodbury, NJ. Mrs. Clifton loved being a librarian and she started programs during her work at South Jersey County Library in Atco, NJ. For example, Home Educators Club, crafts and more. As a result of these firsts she was awarded the New York Times 2004 Librarian of the year for New Jersey. She received proclamations from Camden County, Gloucester County Board of Freeholders, Camden County Library, Congressman, Robert E. Andrews and a personal inspirational call from poet, author Dr Maya Angelou. She also loved listening to music gardening and reading. She is survived by her beloved husband of 32 years, William Clifton; devoted children; Dina Marie Hopkins and Jason Clifton and four grandchildren; Dominic & Elizabeth Clifton and Anthony & Sarah Hopkins. Dear sister of Charles, Macon, William Kidd, Esther Spratley, Louis, Floyd and Cornelius Kidd. Mrs. Clifton will be remembered as a pleasant, understanding, faithful and honest woman. Viewing will be held Friday Oct 28th 6:30?9 PM in the McGuinness Funeral Home, 34 Hunter St., Woodbury, NJ 08096. On Saturday Oct 29th a viewing will be held 8:30?9:45 AM in the Second Baptist Church 1540 Swedesboro Ave., Paulsboro, NJ 08066 . Funeral Service 10 AM in the Church.
