Obituary of Ruth E. Kean

Kean, Ruth E. of Woodbury, NJ died in her home on January 19, 2006, aged 87 years. Born Ruth Edith Schmiech on October 19, 1918, Woodbury, NJ. She was the child of Clarence and Amanda. She graduated from Woodbury High School. Ruth was married in 1937 to Edward W. Kean of Mantua, who predeceased her in 1978. Loving mother of Nancy Donohue of Wilmington and Edward, Jr. of Haddonfield. Predeceased by her eldest daughter Ruth in 2000. She also raised Ruth?s 2 children, Heather Woodward and Laura DeLaCour. Gran will be dearly missed by her 8 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and her long-time companion Robert DeHart. Ruth lived all her life in Woodbury. She was delivered in Underwood Hospital by Dr. Underwood himself, and she was a long time volunteer at the hospital. She was very active in Woodbury civic life. She was past president of the Woodbury Women?s Club and the Walnut Street School PTA. She touched the lives of hundreds of Woodbury residents through her volunteerism as well as her ever-open front door and open heart. There will be a Tribute Service at noon on Saturday, February 18th at McGuinness Funeral Home, 34 Hunter Street, Woodbury. A more informal celebration of her life will follow.
