Eulogy of Thomas J. Diamond, Sr. By: Danielle A. Diamond
It has been said that still waters run deep. This is so true of my dad, Tom. He was a calm and reserved man with an appreciation for the simple things in life. But the fact he had a huge appetite for history, politics, and current events demonstrated that Dad had a lot of intellectual curiosity.
Dad wasn?t one to sit in the classroom. He let life teach him lessons in a different way. As my fiancé Eric and my brother-in-law Mike can attest, you had to know what you were talking about before you came to pick up a Diamond girl for a date. Dad quizzed them not just on their intentions toward his daughters, but on current events as well as their future plans. I am so relieved to know that Dad had the chance to get to know Eric and that Eric had the chance to learn just how high a bar is set for him. I find comfort in knowing that my future husband was given my father?s blessing and approval and dad went to heaven knowing I would be well taken care of. October 6th is our special day. Knowing dad will not physically be there, we all know he will be right there by our side enjoying in the ongoing memories.
Not only was Dad a devoted father, husband, and grandfather first and foremost, but Dad was also a Marine, a Teamster, a family historian. Boy did he love his two buddies, the dogs ?Bailey and Ginger?. Dad?s heart was definitely at home. Mom and Dad would be out to dinner, and before dessert was on the table, he?d say ?Carol, hurry up . . . I?m tired, I wanna get in bed with my two doggies!? Aside from Bailey and Ginger, Mom was his best friend and he absolutely adored her. He loved her with all his heart. He used to tell her how he could NOT imagine his life without her. Dad was so proud of each and everyone of us ? I?m sure you?ve all had to hear about even our smallest accomplishments over the years. His two granddaughters, Erika and Ava, were absolutely the apple of his eye. It comforts our hearts knowing that Dad learned of the latest addition to our family, Mike and Heather?s new little girl, Ciera.
It?s no mistake that I didn?t leave the nest until I was the ripe old age of 30. Among other reasons, Dad was quite the cook. Every morning dad would wake up and make me breakfast then lunch. He obviously made it difficult to leave! As a matter of fact, the lunches Dad packed for me ?yes, he packed my lunch to bring to work?were so good that they were actually stolen on several occasions. Seriously, the managing partner of the law firm where I work asked if Dad would consider catering to the entire office. Maybe he was a suspect of stealing Dad?s lunches?
I never realized how much my father cared for us until I went through his personal belongings and placing them into boxes of memories. As you could imagine it was extremely difficult for me. However, I am greatly pleased to have these memories so I can look deep into his heart and reflect on the past. I found keepsakes from family vacations and sentimental times in his life with Mom. Just imagine the feeling of finding a ticket stub your father kept from a trip to Disney 25 years ago and the luggage tags from a get-away with Mom, ?Feather?s Nest Inn? ha ha.
Sometimes it takes one?s passing to realize the full extent of who they are. As Dad?s body was succumbing to his illness, his entire family was by his side. From Mom, Me Danielle and Eric, Tommy and Lizzette, Cousin Jimmy and Colleen to Cousin Tommy and Aunt Sissy. You are all here because you knew my Dad Tom, and our entire family is grateful that you are here to celebrate his life with us. In appreciation of his kind heart and his bright spirit, please go home and take stock of all that is there. Perhaps we can all learn a little from my father; RESPECT, HONOR and having the utmost LOVE for his friends and most importantly, his family. Think of Tom and his devotion to his family, his love of the simple things in life, and the fact that you probably never even knew he read five 5 newspapers a day. Appreciat

Carol:
From our very first memory there was Tommy,Johnny, and Jimmy. Why in that order, We can not explain. They were always a constant in our lives. There was always a "Diamond Boy" as our mother would say. We grew idolizing them. And that will never end. The world is a less exciting place without, Tommy, Johnny, and Jimmy. We will always be there for you, and your family.

Dear Carol, Heather, Danielle, Tom, and all family members.. what can we say now? I feel like I have witnessed the end of an era, with Tom the type of man I know I may not see again in my lifetime. Since the day that Herb introduced me to the both of you, you have welcomed my children and me with love and have been part of so many happy times in our family. My kids have been hearing "tommy diamond stories", all of which have been priceless, for years at the kitchen table. He will continue in our memories to make us smile for many years to come. Carol, you will never be alone, you will always be part of everything that goes on in our lives!
With love, Pat Rhodes, and the entire family, The Rhodes, The Zeidmans and all the Wallaces
