Obituary of Elijah Dawes

Dawes, Elijah Jr. of Turnersville, NJ; on July 31, 2006. Age 72 years. Elijah was a proud U.S. Army Veteran serving during the Korean Conflict and two tours of Vietnam. After 20 years in the military, Elijah was a chef at the Dutch Inn in Gibbstown, Landmark Inn in Maple Shade and was most recently a cook at the Kennedy Health Center in Washington Twp. In his spare time, Elijah enjoyed taking care of his lawn and pool, going to the casinos and playing his favorite game craps, and enjoyed taking his family to the beach. Elijah was very proud to see his sons, Andrew and Daniel succeed and was a man of great faith. He was a hardworking, quiet man who had a wry sense of humor and will be remembered as always saying, ?just trying to keep a smile on my face.? Survived by his wife, Susan M. nee Hayward and their sons, Andrew and Daniel; his children, Janet, Michael, Terry, Perry, Joseph, Alvin, Linda, Leah, Lindsey and the late Rufus;. Son of Elijah Dawes, Sr. and the late Myrtle nee Burroughs; Brother of James, Joseph and the late Elizabeth. Viewing Thursday, 12:00?1:30 PM at the McGuinness Funeral Home, 573 Egg Harbor Road, Washington Twp., NJ. Funeral service will be at 2:00 PM at the St. Johns United Methodist Church 149 Ganntown Road, Turnersville, NJ. Interment Manahath Cemetery, Glassboro, NJ.
