Obituary of Jennie Gruff

Gruff, Jennie Nee Yanez, left to be with the Lord, peacefully at home, surrounded by her loving family and supportive friends on August 16, 2006. Aged 74 years. Jennie was born in Perris, CA on Dec.7, 1931. She fell in love and married George Gruff, while he was serving in the US Air Force at March Field in Riverside, CA. After marriage, they returned to George?s hometown of Westville, NJ. Jennie was a ?FULL? time homemaker, a caretaker, a mentor of kindness & generosity and friend to everyone she met. Her kind spirit & generous nature inspired & amazed those who surrounded her. She always put others before herself, as evident in the many donations she made to both her time & love. Her home was always open to all for any kind of gathering large or small or just to stop by & share her overflowing love she had to give. One of her many loves beyond her family was the Trump Plaza Casino in Atlantic City, NJ. She loved to play the slots & never missed an opportunity to talk & befriend a stranger. She was a Lifetime Member of the Westville Fire Company, Woman?s Auxiliary in Westville, NJ for over 30 years. She is survived by George J. Gruff, Jr., her husband of 53 years. She raised 4 great children who continue to reside in the local area, Pamela J. Hartman Robert, Wenonah, NJ; Cynthia J. Gruff Valeski Victor, Mullica Hill, NJ ; George W. Gruff., Sr. Bernadette, Gloucester, NJ ; Scott Gruff, Woodbury Heights, NJ; & her ?adopted? daughter LuAnn Conner; her grandchildren, George W. Gruff, Jr., Emily Gruff, Aaron Hartman & 3 step-grandchildren Theodore Hartman, Chris Valeski & Megan Valeski. She is also survived by her 9 surviving siblings, Mary Self, Esther Johnson, Tillie Bradshaw, Rosa Kissinger, Ramona DePew, Robert Yanez, Esmile ?Smiles? Yanez & Tommy Yanez, all from California & Nellie McGovern in Delaware. She is preceded in death by her brothers Frank Nava & Richard Yanez. Funeral Service Saturday 11:30 AM in the McGuinness Funeral Home, 573 Egg Harbor Rd., Washington Twp., NJ, where relatives & friends may call after 8:30 AM.
