Obituary of Edward P. Candelora

CANDELORA, Edward P. a long time resident of Glassboro, NJ passed away peacefully at home with family by his side on September 15, 2006, at the age of 79. Beloved husband of Marie nee Piccone for 56 years. Loving father of Antoinette Hayes George, Edward, Jr. Terri, and Jeffrey all of Glassboro. Proud, devoted grandfather of George, Rhonda, John, Teresa and Rosa Nicole and great-grandfather of George Henry and Brooke Michelle. Born in April of 1927 in Glassboro, NJ, Edward lived in South Philadelphia during his young years until he married and moved back to Glassboro where he lived and raised his family since 1953. Graduated from Edward Bok Vocational School in Philadelphia, PA, he immediately went to work for Westinghouse Electric at the age of 16 as a turret lathe operator working on gas turbines. He enlisted in the United States Navy at the peak of WWII. Ranked as Seaman First Class in the Seabees, Edward served during the close of the war in the South Pacific Theater on Guam Island. After being honorably discharged, the Navy Veteran returned to the states and continued his career at Westinghouse Electric. From there he moved on to RCA machining magnetic heads and later was instrumental in the hands-on development of the world?s first electron microscope, the EMU4. Employment in his later years included Gould Labs and Warner Electric Brake & Clutch Co., PSI Division working as a precision machinist and Quality Assurance Inspector. Edward retired from PSI Division in the spring of 1991 and spent his remaining years enjoying the outdoors-- gardening, lawn work, and walking three to four miles daily. He was politically inspired to keep abreast of current events, enjoyed watching old movies, singing, and looked forward to holiday gatherings with his family. In October of 2002, Edward received the Military Service Medal designed specifically for Gloucester County Veterans and commemorated by the Gloucester County Board of Chosen Freeholders. It was presented as a small token of appreciation and gratitude for the invaluable service he and other veterans provided to our country and fellow citizens.
