Obituary of William Bill A. Coughlin

William ?Bill? A. Coughlin, Jr. of Turnersville, NJ on November 22, 2006. Aged 76 years. Bill has been a community leader for all the years that he has lived in Wash. Twp. He served on the township committee from 1964-1967, the Wash. Twp. Environmental commission since its inception, the Wash.Twp. Open Space committee, Veterans of Foreign Wars and more. Through his leadership, he helped to organize the Wash. Twp. Police department & to construct the first municipal building the current police station & membership on the Wash. Twp. School board & Wash. Twp. Zoning board of adjustment. Bill always had a clear vision for Washington Twp. & a stewardship for the environment. In the mid 1980?s, Bill turned his energy to improving the community?s quality of life by improving & protecting the environment. In 1988 Bill became the first chairman of the environmental commission. He created the first environmental center in Washington Lake Park. He developed the sassafras nature trail & the summer youth environmental camp. In 1991, the Gloucester County Planning Board appointed Bill to the Delaware Estuary Program. Bill was assigned as the Programs Vice Chairman which involved 300 communities in 3 states. The implementation of this program was 4 years in the making & resulted in the formation of the Federation of Gloucester County Watershed Association. Bill devoted countless hours to Open Space, farmland preservation & conservation. Bill was instrumental in the establishment of SS. Peter and Paul Parish. Beloved husband of Sheila nee Strobaugh Devoted father of Kathleen Stephen Gibson, Julie Anthony Valenti, Christine Stan Lane, William Barbara Coughlin, Erin Ruggiero and Daniel Coughlin.
