Obituary of William J. Lewis

A man of few words who lived with dignity and died with dignity. William J. Lewis, 82, of Paulsboro peacefully ascended into heaven on April 20, 2007. Bill was born and raised in North Philadelphia. He entered the Army Air Corps in March of 1943 where he was trained to be an electrician. Bill was stationed in England during the War and was awarded the American Theater Medal, the EAME Ribbon, the Good Conduct Medal and the Victory Medal. Bill lived a long and fulfilling life. He worked hard and played hard too. He was a proud banjo player and played for the Sterling String Band for 40 years. Bill retired from ARCO Metals in Logan Twp. where he was a Special Projects Coordinator. Previously, he worked for GAF in Gloucester City. After Bill officially retired he enjoyed boating and fishing alongside his son, Bill, Jr.and his grandson, Jim. Bill Lewis always had a tool ready to fix anything for his family. He was the best husband, Dad and Grandpop anyone could ask for. He will be dearly missed by his wife of 57 years Elizabeth nee Bakley; his son, William J. Lewis, Jr, and a daughter Patty Ivey. Bill was predeceased by his son, Philip and his daughter Sheri Canning. Grandfather of Bob, Nick, Eireann Canning; and grandfather and father figure to Jim, Kari, Ashley Ivey and Starr Cox Ivey. Great-grandfather of Jerry O?Leary and Sky Cox. Brother of Ruth Momer. A viewing will be held from 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM Wednesday in the McGuinness Funeral Home 34 Hunter St. Woodbury.
