Obituary of Andrew N. Capaldi

CAPALDI, Andrew N., of Whiting, NJ, on June 8, 2007. Aged 88 years. Andrew was born in Woodbury and graduated Woodbury High School in 1938. While attending high school he participated in baseball, football and basketball. During his senior year, he was chosen captain of the Woodbury H.S. Basketball Team and established a new league scoring record. That same year, he was elected captain of the Camden Suburban League All-Star Team. He later became a member of the South Jersey Baseball Umpires Association, as well as the International Assoc. of Basketball Officials. He was a Head Coach for the Woodbury Little League for 10 years, leading many championship teams. Andrew proudly served in the United States Navy during WWII. He was stationed at a Naval Air refueling station in Arkansas, where he met Norma who became his wife of 63 years. After leaving the Navy, he worked as a civilian for the Naval Air Engineering Center for 30 years, located at the Philadelphia Navy Yard and was later transferred to the Lakehurst N.J. facility. In the year 2000, Andrew was inducted into the Gloucester Co. Sports Hall of Fame and the Woodbury High School Hall of Fame in 2007. During his free time, Andy was an avid golfer, and loved tinkering with anything mechanical He also loved his family who will miss him dearly. Beloved husband of Norma T. nee Sowell of 63 years Devoted father of James Julie, Thomas Cheryl and Linda John DiMona Dear brother of O.J. Capaldi, and predeceased siblings John, George, Adeline and Elizabeth.
