Obituary of John Joseph Friel

Friel, John Joseph Jr., of Green Creek, passed away after a long illness on November 12, 2007 with his loving family by his side. Aged 84 years. John was a gentle and quiet man whose greatest joy was spending time with his family. In his spare time he enjoyed golf, fishing, cards and watching sports on TV, especially when it was with his sons and brothers. He will always be loved and never forgotten. He will be missed by all. John served in the U. S. Navy during World War II and after his time in the military, he had a successful career as a masonry contractor and was affectionately called ?Bopper? by his employees. He was a former member of Incarnation Church in Mantua for 40 years and was a charter member of the Knights of Columbus Council #6364. Since retiring to Green Creek, Cape May County 18 years ago, he has been a member of St. Raymond?s Church in the Villas. Beloved husband of 64 years to Norma nee Jones; Devoted father of Robert, Donald, Joseph, Janice and the late John J. Jr. and Patricia; Dear son of the late, John J. and Kathryn Oliver Friel; dear Brother of William, Edward, Catherine Rodgers, and the late, Anne Ernst, Eleanor Hagen and Rita Smith; Loving Grandfather of Wendy, Christopher, Thomas, Jason, Amber, Dustin, Lisa, Theresa, Joseph, Shawn, Matthew, Lauren, Katherine, Vincent and great grandfather of Jacob, Julia, Jessica, Conner, Natalie, Joshua, Robert, Olivia, Emily, Alexander, Adam and Ava. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation on Friday, 10 ? 10:45 AM at Incarnation Church 240 Main Street, Mantua, where the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM. Interment New St. Mary?s Cemetery, Bellmawr, NJ. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Holy Redeemer Visiting Nurse Agency, 1801 Route 9 North, Swainton, NJ 18210.
