Obituary of Samuel Spina

SPINA, Samuel J., a long-time resident of Thorofare on Feb. 29, 2008. Aged 90 years. Sam was born in Philadelphia. He was a proud US Army Veteran of WWII and was among those who landed on the beaches at Normandy on D-Day; he received the Presidential Unit Citation and Good Conduct Medal. Prior to his retirement in 1979, Sam worked as compounder for Mobil Oil, Paulsboro for over 34 years. Sam loved to travel; he and Bessie traveled the country together in their mobile home. He was a member of the Thorofare Volunteer Fire Company. Sam was active in the VFW and American Legion. He is the beloved husband of the late Bessie Spina nee Cristaudo; devoted father of Joseph, Samuel, Fred and Anthony; dear sister of Mary Boionelli and the late Fred Spina; loving grandfather of 11 and great-grandfather of 11. Viewing Wed. 6:30-9 PM and Thurs. 8:30-9:15 AM in the McGuinness Funeral Home, 34 Hunter St., Woodbury. Funeral Mass Thurs. 10 AM in St. Patrick RC Church, Woodbury.
