Russell Atwood

Obituary of Russell Frank Atwood

Russell Frank Atwood, 85, of Oak Valley, NJ passed away on September 23rd after an extended illness.  He is survived by his brother Philip Atwood, two sons; Russell Jr and his wife Daphne of Vineland and Kenneth and his wife Deborah of Woodbury; three grandchildren, Kenneth, Stephen and Kelly; and one great-granddaughter Maya.  Russell was preceded in his death by his loving wife Ruth Atwood.

Russell was a career telephone installer.  His career started upon his Honorable Discharge from the US Army.  He worked for Bell Telephone in Philadelphia and New Jersey for over 25 years.  He retired to start Reliable Telecomm, a communications business in the Delaware Valley.  He was proud of his work and coworkers, mentoring and teaching along the way.

Russell loved working on his MG Midget sports cars and enjoying the outdoors.  He was an avid camper and handyman, a person who would pitch in and help his neighbors with their projects.  He was involved with the Oak Valley Boy Scout Troop 364, acting as Scoutmaster for several years ensuring his charges had educational and fun experiences.  He supported his family and friends in all of their activities; local and school sports, activities and hobbies.  He was an exceptional cook, his specialty was a family recipe of turkey filling served on Thanksgiving; something many have tried to duplicate but never made to his high standards.

Funeral arrangements are private at Russell’s request.
