Telva E. Negron Alzamora

Obituary of Telva E. Negron Alzamora

Telva Eneida Negrón Alzamora, known as “Chony” by her loved ones and friends, went to be with the Lord, on March 20th, 2018 after a long battle with Alzheimer.

Legacy and Family
Chony was born on August 25, 1928, in Panama City, Republic of Panama, the sixth of eight children born to Luis Alfredo Alzamora Barrera and Leonor Sandoval de Alzamora. She is preceded in death by her parents, and two brothers, Luis Alfredo “Chichi” and Ramon “Monchi”; and three sisters, Alicia A. de Barranco, Elia A. de Martinez, and Gladys A. de Contreras. She is survived by brother Rogelio and sister Elsa de Casino, and her immediate family: Husband of Francisco M. Negrón "Pancho" for 60 years; children and spouses Joana and Luis Rivera, Erik and Betsy Negrón; and Francisco Negrón, Jr. and Dan Scott; grandchildren Frankie Morales, Alberto “Gordis” and wife Yaska Morales, Emily & Ian Negrón, Maddie Hunt, Oliver Negrón-Scott; great-grandchildren Halle Morales and Nysanie Morales; and many beloved nieces, nephews, and godchildren.

Throughout her life she displayed the simple and caring demeanor that won the trust and hearts of many, who even now are being changed by her witness of her friendship, nurturing love and faith. Her signature gift of love and kindness and her joy for dancing will never be forgotten.

She attended elementary and middle school at, La Escuela Simón Bolivar, before attending The Lyceum for Young Ladies (El Liceo de Señoritas) in Panama City. She studied at the National Institute (Instituto Nacional) serving in the Federación de Estudiantes. Chony and her beloved sister, Gladys, went on to graduate from the Gregg Institute. Following graduation she went to work at the National Assembly in Panama as a secretary for the Legislative Assembly. She met her sweetheart, Francisco M. Negrón, Sr., a U.S. Air Force instructor ,at the Inter American Air Forces Academy in 1956, while visiting her brother, Rogelio then a student at the academy. They married the following year on February 23, 1957, at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Ancón, Canal Zone.

Married for 60 years, Chony and Francisco “Pancho” raised their three children, Joana, Erik, and Francisco, Jr, “Panchito” in Panama and in military bases across the U.S. Beginning in 1983 , they lived in Niceville, Florida, moving their permanent residence to southern New Jersey in 2010.

Possessing a true servant’s heart, Chony faithfully cared for family and friends through her delicious cooking, entertaining at her home, and always being there for friends and strangers in times of need. She was a true woman of faith and the backbone and heart of the Negrón-Alzamora family. Chony’s love and devoutness to God was highly noted by her tireless Christian walk. She was a true prayer warrior and every day at 3:00 PM, you could find her praying for her family and friends. She belonged to the Spanish Catholic Charismatic prayer group and could always be counted on to cook her special and delicious recipes for church fundraisers. With a real zest for life, Chony loved to dance, read, pray, bowl, play parchisi, and dominoes.

She adored her grandchildren, Frankie, Gordis, Emily, Ian, and Oliver as well as her first great-granddaughter Halle. She was not able to meet and spoil her second great grandson, Nysanie, but will watch over him from Heaven. She was named “Ita” short for abuelita by her first grandchild, Frankie and this became her “nickname” over the years to her grandchildren’s friends.

Chony will be dearly missed, and her words to her family and friends today would be “Los Quiero Mucho y Que Dios los Bendiga.”
