Obituary for: Mr. Junius "Bud" F Ferrin Jr.

Junius F Ferrin “Bud”, of Woodbury, New Jersey, passed away on Thursday, October 19, 2023. He was 96.

Legacy

Bud could be described with three words - family, hardware and choir. These were his great loves in addition to his beloved wife Mary Elizabeth "Betty" Ferrin. During his tour with the Navy in WWII Bud was stationed in Washington, DC on the Anacostia Naval Base. It was there that he met the true love of his life, Betty. In somewhat storybook fashion they met at the USO Club on the naval base, and that is when they had their very first dance. He decided to take dance lessons in order to woo Betty. Just nine months later they were married in 1947, and remained such until Betty passed in 2003.

His love for hardware began when Betty's Uncle Eddy offered Bud a job, on the GI Bill. Bud quickly decided that this career was for him, working with customers, helping people and working with his hands. Fast forward a few years, he and Betty were able to open their own business, Bud Ferrin's Woodlawn Hardware, located in the Mount Vernon section of Alexandria, Va. This family business thrived for about 20 years. It was truly a family affair with both kids and Betty working there over the years.

In addition, Bud loved to sing. His dedication to choir and participating in various choral groups began in his young adulthood. As a tenor he was able to be a part of several church choirs before solely dedicating his time to the choir at Epiphany Lutheran Church in Alexandria, Va. Bud was an active member of Epiphany Lutheran from the 1960s until his move to New Jersey in 2015.

Lastly, Bud and Betty always wanted to be parents. They were both incredibly proud of their two children, Jay and Susanne. So many lasting memories were created for their kids by both Bud and Betty. As for Bud, he focused on teaching his kids numerous sports including the art of mini golf and skee ball when going on family vacations at the beach. That same love was evident with both grandchildren, Jennifer and Dane.

Family

Bud is the beloved father of Susanne and Jay Ferrin (Patti); cherished grandfather of Jennifer Mitchell (Nathaniel) and Dane Ferrin; great-grandchildren Matilda Mitchell, Jay Allen Mitchell. He had the following nieces and nephews who he also loved deeply, Patricia Lyddane, William E. Lyddane (Reen), Janet Roemer (Robert), Kathleen Lyddane, William O. Lyddane "Chip" (Charlotte).
