A Tribute to Dad.
From my earliest days I always remember my Dad, working hard, serving his family and his community.
When we moved to NJ, I was 7. My older brother had been in the Cub Scouts. There was not an active Cub Scout Pack in Oak Valley, so he started Pack 264 and served as Scoutmaster for several years. As my brothers and I progressed to Boy Scouts, he served on the Oak Valley, Troop 64 committee and continued to do so, long after we were out of Scouts.
He served our church, Holy Nativity Lutheran Church, many years as the chairman of the board, as Treasurer, Sunday School superintendent and Sunday School teacher. He, along with Mom, sang in the choir. He always kept our family actively involved in the Church. I remember many activities with the Luther League, our Church youth group, many which Dad planned, to keep us actively involved in our church family. The Luther League was real important to Dad, and Mom, because of how important it was to them in their young years. Many of their lifelong friends carried on from their involvement in the Luther League.
He served on the Oak Valley Swim Association committee, and the Oak Valley Community Association for many years.
All of his efforts resulted in a rich and active upbringing for me and my siblings, and our friends!
He always kept busy, and I did not realize at the time, but much of what he did created many opportunities for us to grow in character and enjoy life and friendships.
Scout activities, Church activities, Summers spent at the Oak Valley Lake, Community activities, holiday celebrations with the Oak Valley Community. I especially remember the 4th of July celebrations.
Family was important to Dad and Mom. In addition to our blood relatives, many of our "Uncles", "Aunts", & "Cousins", were really just close family friends that Dad and Mom had formed over the years.
He was a great Dad, and a good man with a servant's heart!
He was a WW II veteran and served his country!
I am proud of him and proud to be his son.
And I look forward in faith, and the hope that I will again share life with him, and Mom, in eternity.
Ron

My memories of Uncle Bud are of him being strong and steadfast. While visiting in the 90's I voiced a desire to see an old family member and before I knew it Uncle Bud was taking me in the car. Another time he was so delighted to cook me my first scrapple breakfast, one of my Mom's memorable foods.
I will miss Bud's confident voice and willingness to offer a word and a hand.
Peace to each of you Ron, Joe Bob and RuthAnn in the loss of your Dad.

Uncle Bud always took a moment to quietly thank me for my military service and always down-played his own service during WWII. I always told him that warriors come in all sizes shapes, and roles, and that he as a hero in many ways to me, to which he simply & humbly just nodded. I know he is with Aunt Ruthie now, and their life and rich legacy live on in family & friends.
