Obituary of Elizabeth "Bette" Murphy

Elizabeth “Bette” Murphy (nee Struck) age 98, passed away peacefully with her family on May 22, 2018.

Legacy

Bette was born in Philadelphia on February 10, 1920. She moved to West Philadelphia at the age of five. In 1951 she married William E. Murphy and in 1961 they moved to Cherry Hill, NJ where she lived for 25 years. Bette originally worked as a bookkeeper for a paper manufacturing company for nine years. After attending college, she went to work for a men’s clothing chain where she handled the inventory and payroll for twelve stores. Bette then became a nursery school teacher at Trinity Presbyterian Church. This was a job that she truly loved and dedicated herself to for seventeen years. In 1986 she moved to Lakebridge in Deptford Twp. and she joined the First Presbyterian Church of Woodbury Heights. She was very active in the church and served on the Deacons and the Session. She enjoyed helping with the annual Chicken Barbeque and the Christmas Bazaar. Bette was very artistic and her passion was ceramics. She gifted many of her beautiful creations to family and friends over the years. 

Family

Beloved wife of the late William (Bill) Murphy; daughter of the late Ellen J. (nee Whitefield) and Charles E. Struck; sister to the late Ellen Dawley and Kathryn Harris; much-loved aunt to Ellen Beucler, Kathryn Ellison, Earl Dawley and Wayne Harris; and cherished great and great-great aunt to many. Bette was devoted to her family and loved spending time with all of them. In her own words……”I have lived a full and happy life with my family and many friends.”

Farewell Services

Viewing Tuesday, May 29, 2018 from 10:00 to 10:45 AM at the First Presbyterian Church of Woodbury Heights, 335 Elm Avenue, Woodbury Heights, NJ 08097. Funeral Service 11:00 AM; Luncheon immediately following in the church hall. Interment at Fernwood Cemetery, 6501 Baltimore Ave., Lansdowne, PA 19050.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Bette’s memory to the First Presbyterian Church of Woodbury Heights, 335 Elm Ave. Woodbury Heights, NJ 08097
