Obituary of Sanford J. Shapin

Sanford J. “Sandy” Shapin of Sewell, New Jersey, passed away on Sunday, December 25, 2022.  He was 88.

Sandy was an electrical engineer by trade, but his passion was photography. Self-taught, Sandy owned his own photography studio, Atlantis Photography, and took pictures for many prominent companies and organizations, including McDonald’s and an NBA exhibition team roster. His most iconic picture was an evening photograph of Independence Hall in the snow, which was made into a postcard.

Sandy and his wife Jean enjoyed their time together traveling, visiting many countries throughout the world.

Sandy was a graduate of Pacific Western University, earning both a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in engineering.  He served honorably in the US Army.  Preceded in death by his beloved wife, Virginia P. “Jeannie” Shapin, and brother, Gerald H. Shapin, he is survived by his dear friends Mike and Erika Annin and many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his visitation on Saturday, January 21, 2023 at 9:00AM in the Church of the Incarnation, 240 Main Street, Mantua where his Funeral Mass will follow at 10:30. Interment will follow with Military Honors at Lake Park Cemetery, Swedesboro. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in his memory to your favorite charity.
