Obituary of Gerald Francis Dunn

Gerald Francis Dunn, 89, passed away on Monday, December 5, 2022. He was born on October 7, 1933 in Philadelphia's Kensington neighborhood and later became a long time resident of West Deptford, NJ. Legacy Jerry worked at National Sugar in Philadelphia (later known as Jack Frost sugar) for 29 years as a well respected maintenance mechanic. and later worked at the Philadelphia Navy Yard and retired from Hahnemann Hospital. After retiring he enjoyed traveling with his wife Pat, driving up and down both the east and west coasts, cruising to Alaska, Hawaii and Bermuda and even experienced a memorable earthquake in Las Vegas. Jerry was an avid fisherman who loved taking his boat, the "Seven Days" out from Port Norris and Cape May, NJ. He Loved the Jersey shore and taking family vacations to Margate, Wildwood and Ocean City NJ. Jerry seemed to have a tool for everything and the ability to use them all. He was an accomplished carpenter, auto mechanic, electrician, and plumber. His love of sweets is legendary and included vanilla butter creams, Johnson's Popcorn and especially ice cream. He said "there is no bad ice cream, some are just better than others." Jerry left school at an early age, but he valued education. In his fifties he spent a year tirelessly teaching himself to improve his vocabulary and spelling. He was proud to be a good provider to his family. He would help friends and family at the "drop of a hat", and ask nothing in return. He was an avid Notre Dame fan and golfer. Family He was an amazing Husband, Father & Pop-Pop. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Patricia (nee Jenkins) Dunn, his daughter Patty, son James, his wife Anne-Marie and their children Samantha & Matthew. Farewell Tribute Relatives and friends are invited to attend Jerry's viewing on Sunday 3:00- 5 PM and Monday 9:00- 10:00 AM in the McGuinness Funeral Home, 34 Hunter Street, Woodbury where his Funeral Ceremony will follow at 10 AM. Interment Holy Cross Cemetery, Yeadon, PA.
