Obituary of Melvin Michael, Sr.

Melvin Michael, Sr., 91, a native resident of Washington Township, Gloucester County, passed away on Sunday, October 2, 2022, surrounded by his loving family. 

 

Legacy 

Melvin was born in Turnersville, NJ, and lived most of his life in Bunker Hill and Erial areas, before serving in the United States Army during the Korean War. Melvin returned from Korea and resumed farming, as the foreman for Kuhn’s Orchards. He and Joan met on a blind date and started their life together in 1956. Together they had four children and were the owners/ operators of Michael’s Greenhouses for 53 years. Melvin was an active member of the community and belonged to the Hurffville Lions Club and Chatsworth Deer Hunting Club. Besides farming, working in his greenhouses, and being with his family, deer hunting was Melvin’s passion.     

 

Family 

Beloved husband of 65 years to Joan; devoted father of Barbara (the late Michael), Elizabeth, Alice (the late Scott), and Melvin Jr. (Danielle); loving grandfather of Cathy Jo (Andrew), Kelley, Sarah, Jacqualine, Norman (Miranda), Nicole, Jake and great grandfather of Kaya, Ariah, Andrew Jr., and Layla; dear brother of Shirley (the late Ronald), Edward (the late Marie) and the late Roy, Evelyn and Walter.  Melvin is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, great-great nieces and nephews, cousins, and dear friends. 

 

Farewell Tribute 

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Melvin's Graveside Ceremony on Friday, October 7, 2022, at 2:00 PM at Gloucester County Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Williamstown, New Jersey.  Military Honors will be presented prior to the Ceremony.
