Obituary of Carlton F. Fairchild

Carlton F. Fairchild, of Pitman, formerly of Deptford, NJ and Tarpon Springs, FL., passed away on Saturday, August 6, 2022. He was 98. Legacy Carlton was a true Patriot and proud of his American heritage. He served in the United States Army Air Corps USAF during World War II and Korea. During World War II, he served with the B29/40th Bomb Group in the India China Burma Theatre and also on Tinian Island in the Marianas. Following his service time, Carlton returned home and spent his career as an Accountant for the DuPont Company, spanning more than 37 years until his retirement in 1983. Carlton was a life member of the American Legion Tatem-Shields Post 17, Collingswood. Carlton was an avid baseball player as a young man and even during his time in the service, enjoyed playing pickup games with other servicemen on the base. He enjoyed bowling, playing cards and shuffleboard. Carlton was an outgoing man who was a natural leader and while living in Tarpon Springs, FL, was an active participant in his community. He was a member of St. Stephen's Lutheran Church and will be fondly missed by all who knew and loved this special man. Family Carlton is the beloved husband of the late Betty; dear father of Marilynn Carson and Kenneth (Cheryl) Fairchild; grandfather of David (Amy), Steven (Jill) and Andrew Carson, Kimberly (Kevin Driscoll) and Michael (Priscilla) Fairchild; great grandfather of Rhyan, Zachary, Cameron and Chase Carson and Saoirse and Finola Driscoll. Farewell Tribute Relatives and friends are invited to attend Carlton's viewing on Friday morning after 10 AM in the McGuinness Funeral Home - Woodbury, 34 Hunter Street, Woodbury, where his Funeral Ceremony will follow at 11 AM. Interment with Military Honors will follow in Gloucester County Veterans Cemetery, Williamstown, NJ.
