Obituary of Robert Martin Damminger
Robert Martin Damminger, 65, of West Deptford, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 2, 2022.
Born and raised in Paulsboro, Robert graduated from Paulsboro High School in 1975 where he played baseball and basketball. Robert was born a politician and his career in politics started at the young age of 4 when Robert accompanied his dad, Louis Damminger, mayor of Paulsboro, around town. Any store opening, building dedication or town celebration, Robert was there.
The town, county and even the state would benefit from Robert’s enthusiasm to serve his community. He started as a Councilman in Paulsboro in 1986 and served until 1997. Robert served for 24 years as a Gloucester County Commissioner, with 11 of those years being spent as the Director, and Deputy Executive Director of Operations at SJTA from 2002-2022. He was passionate and instrumental in the formation of Gloucester County Veterans Memorial Cemetery and the preservation of open space in the county. Some of the other projects close to his heart were increasing the size of the County College, the spay and neuter clinic at Gloucester County Animal Shelter, the Mega Site for COVID vaccines and the annual flu shot clinic.
A selfless, compassionate and kind gentleman, Robert was just an all-around nice guy. He was a genuine people person, easy to talk to and could have you laughing in moments with his uncanny sense of humor. Robert was a grateful man and no gesture was too small to offer thanks.
Above all, Robert was a great family man and he was devoted to his true love and wife, Debbie and their daughter, Kimberly Nicole. Kimberly was the apple of her daddy’s eye and his pride and joy. Nothing was more important than time spent with his family and friends. Many memories were made with family outings to Ocean City, monthly new restaurant visits and rounds of golf with friends. Robert lived life to the fullest and he will be truly missed by everyone who was lucky enough to have known him. He will never know how many lives he truly touched.
Beloved husband of 28 years to Debra Ann (nee Rivell); devoted father of Kimberly Nicole and his canine pal, Sheldon; loving son of the late Louis and Kathryn (nee Taylor) Damminger; dear brother of Patricia (Charles) Conroy, Joan (Stephen) Wisniewski, Frank (Linda) Damminger, Mary (Mike) Morse, Karen (John) Cuzzupe and the late Louis; brother-in-law of June Damminger. Robert is also survived by his father- and mother-in-law, George and Rebecca Rivell; his brothers- and sisters-in-law George (Katherine) Rivell, Eric Rivell, Ken Rivell (the late Vicki Wood) and many loving nieces and nephews.
