Marilyn Parette

Obituary of Marilyn Parette

Marilyn Parette passed peacefully on December 27, 2020, at the age of 94.

Legacy

Marilyn (Lynn) Parette was a lady of many names. Her birth certificate says she was born Mary Bataille on April 29, 1926. Although her parents, Wilfred and Alice Bataille wanted her named Marilyn, they were “persuaded” to choose a saint’s name (Mary) for the records. Called “Marilyn” or “Lynn” her entire life, she once took it upon herself to alter a copy of her own birth certificate.

Around 1940, Lynn and her sister Bette started a girl’s club in their hometown of Springfield, NJ; that little group continued to meet regularly for over fifty years. Lynn attended Jonathon Dayton Regional H.S. and Pontiac H.S. (Mich.), and worked at J.K. Smith Co. in the 1950’s.

A woman fond of parties and an occasional Old Fashion, she married a quiet teetotaler on June 14, 1958 and became Mrs. Robert L. Parette. That bond lasted until Bob’s passing in 2007. Within four years of marriage, she came to be “Mom” or “Mommy” to Marc, Robert and Shelley (Michele Kennedy). Lynn lived in the same house in Edison NJ for over fifty years.

Lynn has been a sister to nine, an aunt to seventeen and “Grandma” to Christopher Kennedy, Colin Parette, Shelby Parette, Grace Parette and Harrison Parette.

Never on-time for anything, Lynn loved to entertain and be entertained; she was outspoken and an independent thinker who wrote poetry (and trying to alter her own birth certificate wouldn’t surprise anyone who knew her). Lynn loved a good time and was an unapologetic night owl who could sleep until noon and was still driving herself to the mall (with both feet) well into her 80’s. Most of all, Lynn was a woman of capacious amounts of love and affection for all those in her life.

Family

Beloved mother of Robert Parette, Marc Parette and Michele Kennedy.
