Caroline Advena

Obituary of Caroline R Advena

Caroline Rita Advena nee Carola, fondly known to many as "Lil" and affectionately known to her immediate family as "Nan" has ascended to join the angels in heaven on Saturday, December 26th 2020.

Legacy

Lil was born in South Philadelphia on February 26th, 1922.  Lil was a proud South Philadelphia, Catherine Street resident.  Her strong roots to her beloved South Philadelphia heritage are evident in her continued devotion and support to South Philadelphia staples such as the Mummers and Termini Bakery, to name a few.  Although she was a proud South Philadelphia native, in 1956 she relocated to Deptford Township, NJ and became one of the original families to call Oak Valley Home.  Convinced that no other place could represent community and family better than Oak Valley she vowed that she would never leave her beloved Oak Valley home and community.

Lil worked briefly at Whitman Chocolates and later at Reisman Pretzels for 25 plus years until her retirement in 1972.  She enjoyed spending time with her family, and loved to travel, especially with family.  She loved to play the slots at the casinos, watch Turner Classic Movies, Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune.

Lil, was a trend setter that will be remembered for her zest for life as a social butterfly. Up until the recent Public Health Emergency, Lil remained active and socially engaged by attending Active Day Senior Center several days a week.  She enjoyed and spent her time at the center playing games, participating in various activities,  taking daily trips to the stores but she was most fond of was,  simply meeting and talking with new people.

Family

Lil is predeceased by her beloved husband William J. Advena, her parents Louis and Philomena Carola and her five brothers, Joseph Carola (Josephine), Louis Carola (Sophia), Paul Carola (Angelina), Edward Carola (Claire) and Lawrence Carola (Susan).  She is survived by her daughters Carol Rivell and Ellen Gorczynski, three grandchildren Christine Goldy (Scott), William Rivell (Julie), and Annmarie Ruiz (Brian) and five great-grandchildren Nicholas Goldy (Jordan), Devon Goldy, Cailyn Goldy, JohnCarlo Ruiz, and Rian Ruiz, her two sister-in-laws, Claire and Susan, and many nieces and nephews.

Lil meant the world to her family and will be missed forever.  She will live on forever in our hearts and memories.
