Obituary of James J. Marks

James J. Marks, age 92, died Friday, February 21, 2020, at the New Jersey Veteran’s Memorial Home in Vineland.  Born in Philadelphia, son of the late James J. & Marie Marks, he left high school to join the Marines in 1944.  He finished his high school education by correspondence course in 1960.  He and his wife Irene, also of Philadelphia, moved to Bellmawr, NJ in 1957.  “Jimmy” Marks was a cutter/trimmer as part of men’s clothing union Local 110, working for College Hall Fashions for many years, before becoming the business agent for Local 110.  He retired in 1994, nearly 50 years of dedication to improving and later maintaining the existence of USA-union-made clothing and other related textile industries in the great Philadelphia area.  Jim was a loving son, brother, husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.  He loved to read serious, non-fiction material especially world history.  He remembered everything he read and was always interested to discuss current or past world events.  He loved to tinker with work-bench projects and fixing things around the house.

James is survived by his beloved wife Irene of 70 years; son, James Marks (Margaret) of Mickleton, NJ; sister, Ruth DiCicco of Huntingdon Valley, PA; as well as four grandsons and two great-grandchildren.

Co-workers, friends and family are invited to visit from 9:30am to 11:30am on Saturday, February 29, 2020 at the McGuinness Funeral Home, 573 Egg Harbor Road, Sewell, NJ.  A private interment will follow.  No flowers please.
