Diosdado Mantalaba, Sr.

Obituary of Diosdado C. Mantalaba, Sr.

Diosdado C Mantalaba, Sr., 87, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, passed away on Thursday, February 13, 2020.

Legacy

A very loving and caring gentleman, Diosdado had a wonderful sense of humor as well as a bright and positive outlook on life. A humble man, Diosdado had a very generous nature about him, especially for the servers that he met at restaurants. He was well known by restaurant staff and owners near and far for his personable ways and wonderful character. His favorite times with family were around a table, and his philosophy was that there could never be enough food. If you went out with him, you certainly were not coming home hungry. He always looked his best and considered himself a smart dresser. Diosdado was a writer, loved music, played the piano, and could take the simplest of ingredients and make a gourmet meal out of it. Of all his accomplishments in life, his family was the one that made him the proudest. He will be sadly missed not only by his dear family, but by the medical staff that cared for him at Penn Presbyterian Hospital and Davita PMC Dialysis Center.

Born in the Philippines, Diosdado was a member of the Manila Daily Bulletin editorial staff. A talented writer, he wrote “The Noble Plebeian” and “The Sublime Paralytic” (biographical sketches of two Filipino revolutionary heroes). He moved to the United States in the early 1970s, and was a resident of Philadelphia for over 40 years. Prior to retiring, he was a School Operations Officer for the School District of Philadelphia Board of Education.
