Obituary of Jeannette S. Naphy

Jeannette S. Naphy nee Cook & DeVine of National Park died Wednesday September 3, 2003 at the age of 103. Mrs. Naphy was born on April 13, 1900 in Bath, Maine. She lived for over 70 years in National Park. She was a life member of the National Park Fire Co. Ladies Auxiliary and a life member of the NJ State Fire Auxiliary. At age 100, she was made a honorary member of the Gloucester Co. 4H. Mrs. Naphy was the sole surviving member of the Woman?s Community Council of National Park. This was a group of mothers and wives of service members that communicated with the National Park service members during World War II and the Korean War. Every year, service members received Christmas and Birthday cards with a one dollar bill enclosed. When World War II was won, the service members began to return. The Women?s Community Council organized five banquets to honor the veterans. They also arranged to have the Borough property at Grove & Hessian Aves. designated Veterans Memorial Park. A World War II memorial was built there and years later additional monuments were placed to honor the veterans of the Korean War and the Vietnam War. Wife of the late Joseph Naphy.
