GOTTSCHLING?Sarah R. nee Devine, affectionately known as Sally went to be with the Lord on April, 1, 2006 while surrounded by her family at her Lakebridge home. ?A stylish woman known for her classic dress, strong faith and good sense of humor.? Sally was born in Scotland and spent the first 10 years of her childhood in the interior of North China in the town of Chiao Tso. She attended a mission school in China, private school in London and was a 1934 graduate of Woodbury High. Sally was always interested in public speaking and drama, and was active in Little Theatre since the age of 17. Stage appearances for Sally included those with the Woodbury Sketch Club Players and Theatre Jacksonville, FL. She moved to Florida in 1979, where she lived for 9 years; it was during this time she became interested in storytelling. Sally was a member of the National Storyteller?s League and a founder & officer of the Beaches League of Storytellers in Jacksonville Beach, FL. Prior to retirement, Sally worked as a Medical Assistant starting with Dr. Earl Wentzel in Wenonah, then with area doctors offices for 32 years. She also taught Medical Assisting at Gloucester County Vo/Tech. She wrote much of her own material and wrote poems and stories for her church publication, The Memo Press and the Lakebridge News. She was a longtime resident of Wenonah and a devoted and active member of the Memorial Presbyterian Church, Wenonah, for over 65 years. There she served as elder and would lead the children?s sermons, telling stories that teach Bible truths. Along with creative writing, Sally loved to cook, play bridge and was a member of the Line Dancing and Yoga groups in Lakebridge. Sally was the beloved wife of 54 years to the late Carl H., the devoted mother of Paul, Ronald, Diane Bradley & her husband George and Linda McLaughlin & her husband James, dear sister of David Devine, loving grandmother of 12, great grandmother of 3 and 2 on the way. Relatives and friends are invited to celebrate 90 wonderful years at her viewing on Tuesday 6:30?9 PM and on Wednesday 9-9:45 AM in the McGuinness Funeral Home, 34 Hunter St., Woodbury. Funeral Service Wednesday 10:30 AM in the Memorial Presbyterian Church, Wenonah . Interment Eglington Cemetery, Clarksboro. As Sally was passionate about reading and children?s education, memorial contributions may be made to: Memorial Presbyterian Church Children?s Library Fund, 202 E. Mantua Blvd., Wenonah, NJ 08090.
