Dorothy Blackburn

Obituary of Dorothy M. Blackburn

Dorothy M. Blackburn, a resident of Deptford, New Jersey, passed away on Sunday, September 15, 2019.  She was 74.

Legacy
Dorothy, or Dot as many knew her, enjoyed so much in life.  She loved to spend quality time with her family; whether it was going out to eat for Lobster Fest at Red Lobster and then to the movies, swimming with her grandson, JJ, and camping, family trips to the beaches of Wildwood or spending the holidays together and preparing meals for them.  Dot appreciated her time spent at the Deptford Center in the Activities department working and helping the residents and co-workers that some she eventually would call friends.  She kept in touch even after retirement with many co-workers from the Atlantic City Casinos that she worked for over 20 years.

Dot found solace in listening to the sound of rain and relished in the beautiful views of the sun setting over water.  She couldn't pass up a nice slice of warm apple pie and was more than satisfied with a plain steak sandwich with mustard and a small bag of chips.  You would always see Dot with a cup of hot tea in her favorite "Grandmom" mug.  One of her greatest joys in life was her grandson, JJ.

Dorothy was the strongest person her daughter and so many others have ever known.  She was strong willed, independent and private.  She was very generous and giving, a hard worker and hardly ever complained.  Dot's door was always open to those who needed her the most.  She was the best mother and best friend.  She will be sorely missed by so many.

Family
Dorothy is the devoted mother to Dorothy "Dottie" Blackburn; loving Mom-Mom to John "JJ" Wynetti IV; dear sister to Charles Sharkey and the late John J. Sharkey.  She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Brenda and many cherished nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and co-workers from the Deptford Center.
