Obituary of Sara M. Lord

Sara “Sally” Margaret Lord (nee Murtugh) a resident of Turnersville, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 9, 2019. She was 87 years old. She was born to the late William and Sara Josephine Murtugh (nee Boyle) on August 26, 1931 in Philadelphia, PA. Sara married the late Francis Earl Lord in May of 1954 and they lived in Darby, PA for 58 years before moving to Turnersville, NJ.

She was the beloved mother of Frank W. Lord (Eileen) of Glenolden, PA Sally A. Wilson (nee Lord) (Kenneth) of Turnersville, NJ; Predeceased by Catherine McCrary. Sara is survived by a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

Sally was a remarkable cook and enjoyed preparing meals for her family and friends, most especially over the holiday. Family and friends we her passion and delight, her Christmas Eve Parties were ‘Epic.’ She passed her appreciation of celebrating with family and friends to all her children as well as some of her famous recipes. Sally was immensely proud of her family, and leaves behind nothing but beautiful memories.  Taking care of her family was what made her happy, that and the occasional trip to the casino. Oh and dancing, did I mention she loved to dance.

Sally was world-renowned for not holding back and telling it like it is, always telling you the truth even if it wasn’t what you wanted to hear but always said out of love. Her words of wisdom, encouragement and sometimes comfort kept us in line, taught us the “school of hard knocks” and gave us something to pass down to our children as well as her extensive vocabulary of four-letter words.

Our mother never told us how to live our lives, she lived hers and let us watch and what a life she lived. Our mother was a beautiful soul filled with hope and love. Even if between a rock and a hard place, she always made sure my sister, my brother and I were loved. She possessed a contagious smile and entertaining sense of humor and for  her ease in frequent conversation with total strangers. Her signature gift of joy shown through her constant smiling, laughter and joking around will never be forgotten.
