Obituary of Harriet B. Stuhltrager
Harriet B. "Lynne" Stuhltrager, 89, of Deptford, passed away on Thursday, March 15, 2018.
Legacy
Born in East Camden just months before the Great Depression—to a family who already had little—Lynne Stuhltrager (neé Agin) learned from a young age to play the hand you are dealt. Independent from a young age after her mother’s death, Lynne sought to embody everything good that her mother had taught her. She conducted herself with a sense of dignity and self-respect so rarely seen in today’s world. Her own challenges made her acutely aware of the obstacles and challenges others faced and she developed a kindness and empathy that drew her to those in need.
It is no wonder she caught the eye of the young Valentine Stuhltrager. Their nearly 67-year love story has all of the classic elements: a chance meeting at a party, a wedding after an exciting courtship, his leaving for Europe with the US Army and their reunion two years later. They were different in many ways but the common bond was their love for each other. They went on to raise three children, who gave them seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
As a mother and grandmother, Lynne taught by example, teaching her children and grandchildren how to listen, how to help, and how to love. Soft spoken, but never short on words to say, Lynne was a communicator. She was always talking with friends, acquaintances, and strangers both in person and on the phone. She had a kind, gentle way of making people feel heard, seen, and included. She was quick with a compliment, and every phrase or situation reminded her of a song. Lynne was a person who genuinely enjoyed making someone’s day brighter. For that, she will be sincerely missed by many.
