Obituary of Walter Seder

Walter "Walt" Seder, 98, passed with family by his side in Woodbury, NJ on December 31, 2017 and will be remembered as a man with integrity. Born July 2, 1919 in Philadelphia, PA, Walt was the second eldest of three sisters and two brothers. His feisty spirit and hands-on nature provoked him to leave high school, before the end of his sophomore year, to drive a distribution truck for Campbell's Soup and Supplee (Sealtest). Shortly after, he found employment in the New York Shipyard as a welder. When the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941, Walt declined deferment. He bravely responded to "Uncle Sam's Greetings" and joined the Army with his friends in 1942. Walt quickly rose to the rank of Technical Sergeant and became part of the buildup in England that would soon enable the Invasion of Normandy. On D-Day+2 he stormed the French Coast at Utah Beach to support Infantry and could vividly recall his encounter with Hedgerows. He was later assigned to General Patton's 3rd Army, 4th Armored Division and the infamous Red Ball Express. While defending freedom, Walt earned four Battle Stars including the Battles of Saint-Lo, Bastogne, and Bulge. By Thanksgiving 1945, WWII was over and Walt was on the high seas returning to America and his one love, Angeline Seder. The two married and began a peaceful life together, in Westville, NJ with four children and many pets. The family eventually settled in Woodbury where Walt was a respected Proprietor of a Sunoco Automotive Service Station on Broadway for many years. Walt was born tough and could dish a fair dose of tough love when necessary. His hardworking and bold 98-year walk on earth will forever be admired and celebrated. Adoring husband of the late Angeline Seder; honored father of Angeline S. (the late Stanley) Skabicki, Walter A. (Linda H.) Seder, Maria Kathy Seder, and the late Captain Kenneth E. Seder, United States Air Force; proud grandfather of Charlene M. Skabicki, Kenneth M. (Michele) Seder, and Krista-Lynne (Eric) Morrow; glowing great-grandfather of Breg A. Morrow. Also survived by brother Edward Seder.
